Brain & Nervous System Regulation

LENS Neurofeedback

Gentle Neurofeedback for Nervous System Regulation, Resilience & Lasting Change

What Is LENS?

LENS (Low Energy Neurofeedback System) is a gentle, noninvasive form of neurofeedback designed to help the brain and nervous system function more efficiently.

Throughout life, experiences such as chronic stress, emotional trauma, concussions, illness, and physical injuries can affect how our nervous system functions. Sometimes, these changes persist long after the original event, leaving us feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, reactive, or simply not like ourselves.

LENS is designed to encourage the brain's natural ability to regulate, adapt, and restore function, supporting greater resilience and overall well-being.

Who Can LENS Help?

LENS is a diagnosis-free intervention, meaning you don't need a formal diagnosis to explore its potential benefits. Rather than focusing on a specific condition, LENS takes a functional approach to the challenges individuals experience.

LENS has been used with people across the lifespan, from infants to older adults, as well as with animals. There are no age limitations, although suitability is determined individually.

People explore LENS for a variety of concerns, including:

  • Cognition

Attention, memory, concentration, mental clarity, and organization.

  • Concussions & Head Trauma

Brain fog, fatigue, and cognitive difficulties following a head injury.

  • Mood

Depression, persistent sadness, irritability, and emotional reactivity.

  • Anxiety

Excessive worry, restlessness, racing thoughts, and difficulty relaxing.

  • Trauma & PTSD

Hypervigilance, heightened stress responses, and emotional overwhelm.

  • Sleep

Difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or achieving restorative rest.

  • Motivation

Difficulty initiating tasks, transitioning between activities, and following through.

  • Sensitivity & Reactivity

Heightened sensitivity to sensory input, environmental stimulation, and overwhelm.

  • Pain

    Migraines, fibromyalgia, and persistent pain.

  • Fatigue

Low energy, exhaustion, and difficulty recovering from stress.

  • Motor Function

Challenges with balance, coordination, movement, and motor control.

  • Addiction & Dependency

Addictive behaviors, substance dependency, and difficulties with self-regulation.

  • Performance Optimization

Focus, adaptability, mental clarity, and everyday performance.

How Does LENS Work?

Our brains communicate through electrical activity, called brainwaves. LENS uses small sensors placed on the scalp or body to measure this activity and provide brief, low-energy feedback based on what the brain is doing in that moment.

This feedback is intended to help the nervous system shift away from dysfunctional patterns and facilitate the formation of new neuronal pathways, refresh neurochemistry, and promote optimal functioning and self-regulation.

Understanding Suppression

One concept behind LENS is suppression, a term used to describe how the nervous system may alter its activity in response to physical or emotional stress.

While these protective changes can be helpful in the moment, sometimes suppression patterns persist long after the original experience, contributing to feelings of being stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected. LENS is designed to gently interrupt these patterns and lift suppression to improve symptoms.

The Power of Neuroplasticity

Neuroplasticity is the brain's natural ability to adapt, reorganize, and develop new connections throughout life.

LENS is intended to encourage this capacity for change, helping the nervous system become more flexible and responsive rather than remaining in familiar patterns.

The goal is greater adaptability, resilience, and ease in everyday life.

What Makes LENS Different?

  • Passive & Effortless

Unlike traditional neurofeedback, LENS requires no concentration, exercises, or conscious effort. You simply sit comfortably while the system provides feedback.

  • Gentle & Noninvasive

Small adhesive sensors, similar to stickers, are placed on the scalp or body to measure electrical activity and deliver brief, low-energy feedback. The process is generally not felt.

  • No Need to Relive Trauma

LENS does not require you to revisit or discuss traumatic experiences in detail, making it an option to explore for those who find traditional talk-based approaches challenging.

  • Individualized to You

Every nervous system is different. Sessions can be adjusted based on your sensitivity, response, and personal goals.

  • Focused on Function, Not Diagnosis

LENS focuses on supporting nervous system functioning rather than treating a particular diagnosis. A formal diagnosis is not required to explore this approach.

A Gentle, Individualized Approach

No two nervous systems are exactly alike.

Some individuals are more sensitive to changes in their environment, while others experience heightened reactivity or need more time to recover from stress.

At Sunstone Integrative Neurofeedback, your sensitivity, reactivity, and resilience are considered when planning sessions. We begin conservatively and adjust the approach based on how you respond.

My approach is rooted in compassionate, individualized care and the belief that nervous system health is foundational to how we feel, function, and experience the world.

Beyond symptom relief, my hope is to help you reconnect with your authentic self, move through life with greater energy and ease, and experience deeper connection with yourself and others.

LENS is a neurofeedback approach used for relaxation and self-regulation. Its effectiveness for specific medical and psychiatric conditions remains under investigation. It does not replace appropriate medical or mental health treatment.
